GPS Navigation Devices

GPS navigation devices (PNDs) have become a standard in the developed world of today. There is a variety of types of such devices available such as on- and off-board, in-car and hand held, and with 2D or 3D graphics.

Clearly, the number one need of drives is real-time traffic information, as this has a direct and immediate impact on their journey. A person, for example, that missed a flight after being navigated to a congested road by his GPS device, fully comprehends how critical it is to incorporate traffic information into navigation systems.

By integrating real-time traffic information into the route guidance of navigation, the device becomes more intelligent and is capable of directing drivers through the fastest rather than shortest route.
As competition intensifies, real-time traffic information integration becomes an essential service to be offered by GPS vendors.

Communication to navigation devices can be one-way (receive) and done through a variety of channels such as GPRS, RDS-TMC, and WiFi or WiMax.
